If you regularly shoot a modern, decent quality handgun, type 3 malfunctions (commonly known as a double feed) are not so common. In fact, I’ve only experienced one in the past three years. However, if that one had occurred during a life or death situation, I could be writing to you from beyooooond the graaaave! Malfunction clearing needs to practiced, and practiced often. LiveFire Tactical Training, LLC has devised a way to practice clearing the dreaded double feed. This is the Type3MalfunctionRound.
It is a nylon dummy round which simulates the Type 3 Malfunction, exactly as we would experience it in reality under Live Fire Training Conditions.
Now, we are no longer limited in our training efforts, we can experience the “Mother of all Malfunctions” in Live Fire Tactical Training.
Train Smart With the Type3MalfunctionRound Dummy
The Type3MalfunctionRound is a red-orange, nylon dummy round. While it looks like a bomb that was assembled by Amelia Bedelia, the interesting shape is what gives it its purpose. Those wings on the front of the “round” keep it from entering the chamber. This, in turn, causes a type three malfunction. When used in a ball and dummy role, the shooter is surprised by the malfunction. When training for a real life scenario, this surprise element is important. Raise your hand if you’ve ever performed a drill and did better because you knew it was coming. I’d raise my hand, but I need them both to type.
The Type3MalfunctionRound is available in .380 ACP, 9mm, and .45 ACP. A pack of five, regardless of caliber, will set you back $19.95.
